Library summer reading program “Libraries Rock.” This program takes place Tuesdays, June 5 through July 24, with Summer Reading shows at 10:30am and 1pm, through July 24. True West Rodeo, Opening date Wednesday, June 6 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Held each Wednesday through August 8th at 6:30pm. Fun, family-friendly event with live Wild West entertainment and taste of our Western heritage.
Concert Hall @ the Park, kicks off Thursday June 14 in Buckley Park at 5:30pm. Fort Lewis College and Alpine Bank present FREE live music in Buckley Park Thursdays, June 17-July 26. Family-friendly. Bring chairs or blankets. Food for sale from Mountain Taco and Fired Up Pizzeria will be available, but picnics are invited. See the full schedule at https://www.durangoconcerts.com/. T. Rex Express Durango Dinosaur Train Experience, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Running for two weekends June 16 & 17, 23 & 24. The T. Rex Express is a dinosaur-themed educational train for kids. Children can earn their Jr. Paleontologist badge participating in fun, educational adventures. Activities include fossil finder’s excavation, Colorado Gators Live Reptile Exhibit, Cretaceous crafts and more. Click here for details and tickets: http://www.durangotrain.com/
Diamond Belle Saloon Gunfights, at the Diamond Belle Saloon (699 Main Avenue). The kids will get a kick out of watching a re-enactment of an old Wild West Gunfight. Staging takes place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Wednesday, Jun 27, at 5:30pm throughout the summer.
Singin’ in the Rain Jr and Disney’s Aladdin Kids, Durango Arts Center on Saturday, June 30. Get your tickets early for these two summer musical performances at the Durango Arts Center. The kids will want to sing along to all the fun songs in both performances. Produced by the DAC Applause Youth Performing Arts Program. More information: http://durangoarts.org/
Gem and Mineral Show, La Plata County Fairgrounds, July 6-8. If your child loves rocks, this is the place to take them! The show will include displays of rocks, gemstones, minerals and more. The event will feature lots of kids’ activities all weekend, including gold panning and more. See the schedule at http://www.durangorocks.org/gem-show.html.
La Plata County Fair, August 8-12th. The summer ends with a bang with the La Plata County Fair. Lots to see and do at the Fair from checking out all the 4-H projects and crafts in the Exhibit Hall to visiting all the animals. The Fair has several not-to-miss events including a concert on Saturday, Aug. 10, Demolition Derby, Tractor Pull and the 4-H Family Picnic. And don’t forget the Carnival will be in town! Powerhouse Science Center at 1333 Camino Del Rio - Explore the world of science at our fantastic Powerhouse Science Center. A hands-on, interactive science center with exhibits and activities for all ages. Toddler time for pre-schoolers is scheduled for Wednesdays at 9am. The Art Experience at 1150 Main Ave. - Offering drop-in art classes including drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, and more. Paint parties also available. Get Fused! At 600 Main Ave. - An open fused glass studio where you can create art pieces out of glass. No prior experience required and suited to ages 4 and up.
