This is a public garden located on the Animas River Trail below the Library. This is an award winning garden that is free and open to the public 24/7.
The Library Demonstration Garden highlites seven micro-climates that show a diverse collection of plants and trees. This garden also features the beautiful Crevice Gardens Along the Trail with plants from around the world that are suitable for rock gardens.
The Arboreta highlites woody plants, shrubs and trees in three gardens, the Gabbro Miniature Conifer Garden. The Miniature Tree Garden and the Arboretum.
You may take a self guided tour through a phone app or pick up a tour booklet in the library. The booklets are located in the lobby. The gardens are designed and developed by the Durango Botanical Society. They provide free guided tours on Saturday mornings at 9 am. Meet in the Demonstration Garden.
DBS is a non-profit dedicated to the development of public gardens through demonstration and education. This is a Plant Select test facility. DBS recieves plants from Plant Select and the Denver Botanic Gardens to test their adaptability to this diverse climate. Enjoy the art, plants and trees while contemplating the Animas River that flows next to the gardens. Wave to all the people who pass by on the Narrow Gauge Train. Many come back to the gardens after their excursion.
This garden is part of the North American Public Garden Association and the American Horticulture Society.
