Durango Magazine is for people who love Durango. With award-winning excellence in design and a high-quality, standard-size magazine format, the publication is consistently attractive and compelling. Informative and lively, the magazine offers spectacular color photography and well-written features of interest to guests and residents. Regular topics include area attractions, history, people, places and culture. Readers seek out each issue as their source of information and entertainment, and as a lasting souvenir of their experiences in southwestern Colorado.
Durango Magazine readers include hotel guests, business travelers, Fort Lewis College parents, skiers, local business owners, Durango newcomers and La Plata County homeowners. The Buxton Visa Inc. survey from 2013 found the largest categories of area visitors to be educated and married baby boomers (aged 51-plus) who frequently read print magazines and earn household incomes of more then $100,000 a year. They originate primarily from New Mexico, Colorado and Texas with additional large numbers visiting from Arizona and California.
With 32,000 copies distributed for Summer/Fall 2016 and 28,000 for Winter/Spring 2016-17 and a conservative estimate of five or more readers per copy, some 300,000 people see and read a magazine each year. Distribution is complimentary to guests of nearly 3,000 rooms at participating Durango area lodging establishments. Approximately 20,000 copies a year are mailed to La Plata County businesses and homeowners, as well as subscribers around the country. Additional distribution includes paid delivery service to newcomers and paid distribution to certified racks in high-traffic venues around town including the train depot, chamber and visitor centers, airport, Purgatory Village and more.
